Hollow Section
Hollow Section Bolts for Hollow Sections
Advantages of using hollow section. (RHS, SHS, HSS)
Hollow sections are lightweight, structurally efficient and often selected for their aesthetic appeal. Hollow sections are torsionally stiff, so ideal to support eccentric loads such as cladding or infill panels where twist must be controlled.
In practical applications, hollow sections do not suffer from lateral torsional buckling, so are appropriate for use as unrestrained members.
In compression, square and circular hollow sections have the same resistance in each orthogonal direction, and so are ideally suited to struts in bracing systems.
The closed profile makes hollow sections appropriate for use in environments where accumulation of debris on the flanges of open profiles must be avoided.
